Event Description

Beginning on Jan 19th, Galway One World Centre, in association with the Gort Family Resource Centre, will offer a semester of night classes aimed at raising awareness of local, national and global issues, to encourage active citizenship and effective campaigning.

Each weekly, two-hour session will examine issues and allow participants to explore the topics and contribute at every stage. The course will be hosted by activists and academics, blending theoretical knowledge with the wisdom of lived experience in what promises to be a dynamic exchange.

The sessions will be friendly, informal and no previous knowledge or involvement in campaigning is required. Topical readings will be provided in advance of each session.

The course coordinators are Frank Murray and Michael McCaughan. Michael, author and journalist, has extensive experience in course facilitation and worked for many years as a Latin America correspondent for the Irish Times and is now the Outreach Education Worker for the GOWC. Frank has worked in several countries world-wide and has spent the last 5 years working in Community Development in Gort through NUI Galway and Gort Family Resource Centre

The course costs €80 (Concessions €60) and includes free GOWC membership. For more information, contact us at 091-530590
